2011-2012 Composition Project
NACWPI 2012 – San Diego
The National Association of College Wind and
Percussion Instructors encourages composition of new wind and percussion
works with recital and educational value through its biennial composition
project. This notice serves as the call for composers to submit proposals
for new works for the 2011-2012 competition. The winning work will be
performed at the NACWPI 2012 sessions at the College Music Society
National Convention in San Diego, California in November 2012.
Guidelines
Deadline: Postmark no later than October 28, 2011
Age Limit: none
Entry fee: $30
Instrumentation: Mixed chamber ensemble of brass and woodwinds
(flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone,
euphonium, tuba, percussion*). Three to Eleven performers.
*Note: The composer
is responsible for transporting any large percussion equipment to
rehearsals and concerts. Please contact NACWPI President, Ken Broadway,
for more information.
Duration: 10-15 minutes
Restrictions: Works must be new, original, and unpublished, with no
previous performances or awards. The work should be playable by an
average college level student ensemble.
Award: The winner will receive a grant of $1500 and a premiere of the
new work at the 2012 Convention.

To Apply: Send three copies of
the following:
1. One page description of the instrumentation, concept, duration, and
difficulty level of proposed work to be composed after commission is
awarded.
2. List of previous compositions for wind and percussion instruments.
3. Score with CD recording of composer’s most representative work.
Also, please send:
A short biographical sketch (including contact information) and additional
supporting materials at the composer’s discretion.
A self-addressed envelope of sufficient size and postage for return of
materials if desired.
A $30 check made out to NACWPI – Applications without fee will not be
considered.
NACWPI will announce a winner in early December 2011,
after which the composer will receive a contract for the commission. The
judgment of the committee is final, and NACWPI reserves the right to not
